BOARD OF DIRECTORS MEETING
BULLOCH COUNTY HISTORICAL SOCIETY
January 11, 2010
The meeting of the Board of Directors of the Bulloch County Historical Society (BCHS) was held
at The Statesboro Herald office at 5:00 p.m. on January 11, 2010. Those present were Jan
Anderson, Rodney Harville, Nadyne Harville, John Frazier, Joe McGlamery, Thomas Anderson,
Margie-Pevey Shuman, Virginia Anne Waters, Bill Waters and Sylvia Harville. Absent was Marvin
Goss.
President Jan Anderson opened the meeting to discuss the grant we have received from the Jack
and Addie Averitt Foundation in the amount of $140,000. Our goal is to proceed with a number
of projects for the Preservation, Interpretation and Publication of the history of Bulloch
County.
President Anderson opened the meeting with a discussion from the Directors. It was suggested
by Nadyne Harville that each one of the Board members pick a project from the three categories
to head and form committees. Thomas Anderson stated that he would like to be in charge of the
historic sign erection throughout the county and would begin researching this project. Margie
stated that she would like to work on oral history preservation. Joe McGlamery stated that as
the oral histories, research for signs, publications are presented, we will need someone to
proof the articles and publications before they are published. He suggested Karen Powell might
be interested in this project. The Board agrees that this is necessary and will be on the
lookout for someone for this position.
John Frazier suggested that we needed to determine from the membership which projects they feel
are most important and which ones the members would like to work on. He suggested a survey be
prepared to distribute at the next meeting to the members in attendance and explain what the
survey entails. A discussion was held regarding this survey and it was decided that John will
prepare the survey, distribute to the membership in attendance at the next meeting and the
secretary will send mailouts of the survey to the membership not present at the meeting asking
for a speedy return of same.
Another discussion was held regarding our need for a CPA to handle the grant financial review
for us. John Frazier had already discussed this with the Dabbs firm and Virginia Anne Waters
will check with other CPA firms to determine their fees for this service. John also stated
that a separate account will be established for the grant projects.
Joe stated that as time goes by and our membership increases we will need additional space for
our monthly meetings. Unless we can get Rjs to let us use the adjoining large room we will need
to look elsewhere. It may be necessary to change our Monday meeting date to another day. This
will be checked out with Randy Nesmith.
As for the next meeting, it was decided that the program will consist of dividing the three
topics as follows: John Frazier with the survey and Preservation. Virginia Anne Waters
explaining the Interpretation and Rodney Harville presenting the Publication portion.
It was agreed that an additional meeting of the Board will be necessary to discuss the survey
results before the meeting on February 15th. It was decided that we will meet at The Statesboro
Herald office on February 8th at 5:00.
At this time, the meeting was adjourned.
Respectfully submitted,
Sylvia B. Harville, Secretary

BOARD OF DIRECTORS MEETING
BULLOCH COUNTY HISTORICAL SOCIETY
February 8, 2010
The meeting of the Board of Directors of the Bulloch County Historical Society (BCHS) was held
at The Statesboro Herald office at 5:00 p.m. on February 8, 2010. Those present were Jan
Anderson, Rodney Harville, Nadyne Harville, John Frazier, Joe McGlamery, Thomas Anderson,
Virginia Anne Waters, Bill Waters, Marvin Goss, Virgil Harville and Sylvia Harville. Absent
was Margie Pevey Shuman.
President Jan Anderson opened the meeting with the reading of the minutes of the previous
meeting by the secretary.
After which John Frazier gave a report on the surveys and reviewed his calculations as to the
priority of projects as voted by the membership. Comments made on the surveys will be provided
to the Board by the secretary. It was decided that John should report his findings to the
membership at the next meeting.
Virginia Anne Waters announced that she had talked with Billy Hickman, CPA concerning our tax
review. Billy had agreed to provide that information at no charge. We will give Billy a
membership into the Society for his efforts.
A motion was made by Virginia Anne to accept Billy Hickman as the CPA to review our records.
The motion was seconded by Joe McGlamery and the motion carried. Sylvia will send a letter to
Billy thanking him for his efforts and giving him information on the dates of our meetings.
A discussion was held regarding the purchase of a projector for our meetings. Rodney Harville
is to look into a projector with speakers. A motion was made and seconded that this is an
investment needed by the Society for future programs.
There was a discussion regarding the limited space we now have at Rjs for our meetings. Joe
is to discuss this with Randy Nessmith and see if we can use additional space. There is a
possibility that we may have to change our meeting date to accomplish this.
Thomas Anderson reported that he had talked with Roy Thompson with the county commissioners
regarding the signage for historical sites as stated in one of our new project proposals. He
will be getting additional information and reporting back to the Board.
Thomas also asked if the Society could be interested in financing the publication of several
history books by Frank Saunders. One of the books is regarding Treutlen County and the Board
was not interested in financing that one. The other book is regarding Bulloch County and Thomas
will report back on his finding of additional information before a vote is taken.
The Secretary reported that new stationery is needed. Joe McGlamery offered to look into this
and get some pricing.
There being no further business the meeting was adjourned and another meeting is scheduled for
March 8th at The Statesboro Herald office at 5:00 p.m.
Respectfully submitted,
Sylvia B. Harville, Secretary

Rodney Harville, Nadyne Harville, John Frazier, Joe McGlamery, Thomas Anderson, Marvin Goss,

President Jan Anderson opened the meeting with the reading of the minutes of the previous meeting
by the secretary.
After which John Frazier gave a financial report.
Virgil Harville gave a power point report on the survey results received from the membership.
A discussion followed regarding his report. In order to plan the priority of projects as
presented by the results of the survey, the President suggested that each Board member review
this report, along with the survey proposals as sent to the membership. At the next board
meeting each director will present their proposal as to the priority of the most popular projects
so that work can begin. Margie Pevey-Shuman made a motion to proceed as suggested by the
President and the motion was seconded by Marvin Goss and the vote carried.
It was suggested by John Fraizer that our board meeting minutes be put on our website for members
to follow the progress of the Board. Rodney Harville will check with Jimmy Adams, who is in
charge of our website, to see if this is possible. If so, the President will announce this to
the membership at the next meeting.
Rodney Harville announced that a new Epson projector has been purchased for the use of programs
at our meetings. The purchase price for the projector was $728.45. An instruction sheet will
be prepared for those using this projector. A permanent place to store this projector will be
determined.
Rodney Harville also announced that RJs restaurant will be happy to accommodate us for our
monthly meeting in providing extra space. However, it will be necessary that we change our
meeting dates to the third Tuesday of each month, instead of the third Monday of each month.
This will begin in April and the President will make that announcement at the next regular
meeting.
Thomas Anderson gave a report on the historical markers and stated that he needed more time to
gather this information. This was tabled until the next meeting.
Sylvia Harville, Secretary, showed the Board the new stationery which has been printed. Our old
stationery was outdated and needed to be revised to show our website.
The next meeting will be April 6th at The Statesboro Herald at 5:00 p.m.
There being no further business, the meeting was adjourned.
Respectfully submitted,
Sylvia B. Harville, Secretary
